Chlamydia Test


‘Chlamydia trachomatis’ is the bacterium, which transmits the STD Chlamydia. Chlamydia is one major cause of genital diseases. Since it is found naturally living only in human cells, it can be transmitted via all forms of sexual intercourse and also if a pregnant woman has Chlamydia, the chances of the baby getting it especially during vaginal childbirth is very high. Some symptoms are pelvic inflammation, blindness, excess bleeding, painful urination, fever etc. STD testing is necessary to prevent these types of STD.The std tests like a simple Chlamydia test can help to identify and treat this disease. The test is called ‘Chlamydia Nucleic Acid Amplification Test’ (NAAT). A simple urine sample is required. This test is more specific and sensitive as against the swabbing test. The patient should not urinate for an hour before testing. The test results are available within 2-3 days and there is an option to use an at-home testing kit also. If the result is positive, check with your physician for the best treatment which will involve a course of antibiotics. Once the infection is treated, it is best to get tested again.
